The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-12, welcomes candidates for a full-time Middle and Upper School Nurse beginning immediately and ending on June 12, 2026.
The School Nurse serves as the leading health professional for the school community. Responsible for managing and coordinating health services, the School Nurse communicates and collaborates with parents, students, school staff, and health providers outside of school. A proactive approach to seeking and acquiring health-related information, and to sharing ideas and solutions with the community, is a critical responsibility of the School Nurse. This position will report to the Head School Nurse.
To oversee health and emergency care delivery to students and staff in a two-building academic campus with the support of a small team.
To promote wellness and to serve as a health resource in the school setting.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Protecting and maintaining student health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Standards and NYS Licensing.
Administering medications and treatments as required.
Identifying and assessing students’ health needs, implementing services, and evaluating plans of care that impact student learning and achievement or safety.
Developing individual health care plans and modifications for students with special health care needs.
Monitoring and educating faculty and staff regarding student allergies and medical conditions.
Facilitating NY State-mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
Reviewing and maintaining accurate cumulative health records, including immunizations.
Document health services provided using electronic record-keeping and communicating with administrators regarding any accidents/incidents.
Act as a liaison between the school and home regarding student health issues.
Act as a chaperone on occasional off-site class trips that require a nurse.
Engage in anti-racism/anti-bias programming and initiatives.
Participating in parent and/or faculty workshops.
Qualifications:
Registered Professional Nurse with current NYS License
Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field
Experience in school nursing preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience in a high-volume setting
Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
Current NY State Mandated Reporter training
Experience in pediatric or public health nursing preferred
A high degree of organization and flexibility
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
Technological acumen and facility
