About CSS: Cold Spring School is an independent school located in New Haven, Connecticut, that serves children preschool through sixth grade from New Haven and surrounding areas. Students take part in developmentally appropriate academic study through year-long themes, often with a focus on the local environment. Job Description: We are seeking an Art Teacher for our mixed-aged/mixed-grade K - 6th students.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Fine Art or related field
2+years of experience creating curriculum and teaching art within a community or a school based setting
Responsibilities:
Create integrated art projects in collaboration with classroom teachers that give visual enhancement to classroom thematic studies while teaching elements and principles of art in the projects for grades K through 6.
Work with individual children and groups of children develop their ability to see themselves as artists
Collaborate with other teachers to customize projects for a student(s) in concert with his/her skill or interest.
Promote art activities that become life-time interests
Give students a basic foundation of art history and artists whose work may have influenced society
Carry through the school’s philosophy with regards to social-emotional learning in art classes
Use informal evaluation methods and non-standardized assessment strategies to monitor student progress
Keep parents informed, through the Head Teacher, about the child’s progress
Design experiences for the Cold Spring community to engage in community art
Display student artwork in the hallways and outside classrooms with descriptions of the process
Prepare School Meeting shares periodically through the year
Use New Haven’s rich art history to plan visits from local artists and visits to museums
Participate in all faculty meetings
Salary/Benefits:
The salary range is $50,000-$60,000. Candidates who exceed the minimum qualifications will have their salary commensurate with years of experience. Cold Spring School also offers a generous benefits package that includes:
