TKA is a Christ-centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are looking for a Winter Percussion Instructor who is a follower of Jesus Christ and is dedicated to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The primary responsibility of this position is to plan and conduct after-school rehearsals, coordinate performances and competitions, and foster a positive and disciplined team environment. The director collaborates with school staff, parents, and band instructors to support the program and ensure student success both musically and academically.
Essential Job Functions
Regular Activities
Direct and manage the Winter Percussion and Winter Guard seasons (January - March)
Oversee all rehearsals and competitions, approximately 16 rehearsals and 4 competitions
Approve all music, ensuring it is appropriate for skill level and events
Collaborate with the instructors that write drill
Manage equipment, uniforms, and travel logistics while adhering to budget limitations
Supervise staff, instructors, and student leaders
Nurture a safe and inclusive learning environment
Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents, students, and parent volunteers
Support students’ musical development while fostering their personal growth, leadership skills, and teamwork abilities
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education required
Strong conducting and musical skills, especially across all instrument families
Administrative ability: budgeting, scheduling, communication with stakeholders
3+ years of teaching experience, band or ensemble settings preferred
Skills and Abilities
Significant experience as a band director, preferably within a 6-12 educational environment
Comprehensive knowledge of percussion and auxiliary instrumentation
Strong creative vision with the ability to design engaging and competitive shows
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work under time constraints and manage multiple priorities
Strong technical expertise in diagnosing and correcting musical and performance issues
Inspire and motivate students, staff, and student leaders to achieve excellence
Effective scheduling of rehearsals, performances, competitions, and travel arrangements
Manage program finances and coordinate fundraising activities
Strong leadership qualities and mentoring skills
Demonstrated ability to lead by example

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Required to use the computer as needed throughout the day
Work will be performed from campus for rehearsals and will travel offsite for competitions
Will move throughout the campus after-school hours during the day
May occasionally have to lift up to 20 pounds
Work is generally performed, January-March, various nights and Saturdays
This position will occasionally require you to work nights, weekends, and overnights (for trips/events). As much advance notice as possible will be provided.
The months listed are approximate, and the annual start and end date will be dictated by the school calendar and the department’s needs.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Grid Range: $2,000 - $3,000 stipend
This position is paid based on a preset salary grid, and the actual salary will be determined by applicable education and experience as determined by the Human Resources department. The starting pay listed reflects this position's minimum experience and education requirements. The top pay range represents the top of the pay grid for this position. It is rare for a candidate to enter this position at the top of the pay grid. Most candidates can expect to enter in the lower to middle section of the pay grid, depending on experience and education.
