Position Overview
Chartwell School seeks a reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors. This 80% position (32 hours/week) is year-round and includes full benefits. The custodian works as a key member of the facilities team and reports to the Director of Facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas
Ensure campus cleanliness, including trash removal, floor care, window washing, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces
Respond promptly to cleaning and maintenance requests from staff
Monitor and restock cleaning and hygiene supplies (restrooms)
Secure campus buildings at the end of the shift (lock doors, turn off lights, check alarms)
Assist with event setup and takedown (tables, chairs, AV equipment)
Collaborate with the facilities team to support safety and emergency procedures
Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required- AA or BA preferred
Minimum 2 years of custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Strong attention to detail and pride in work quality
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
Clear background check and eligibility to work in a school setting
Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment
Schedule
32 hours/week
Afternoon to evening shift preferred, with some flexibility for occasional weekend or special event needs

The mission of Chartwell School is to diagnostically educate students with specific learning variations, including dyslexia, in a way that provides them with the academic skills, confidence, creativity and perseverance necessary to meet the challenges of mainstream education and lifelong learning.
Our students have average or better intelligence but may have struggled in traditional classrooms due to dyslexia or other learning disabilities and academic challenges. We provide co-ed students ages 5-18 with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to succeed.
A Chartwell education includes: small class sizes, a 1:5 teacher-to-student ratio, attention to learning styles, emphasis on social skills and character building, multi-sensory learning, integrated technology, enrichment activities, sports, and a healthful, green campus.
