The Jackson Hole Community School will be launching our new 6th-8th-grade Middle School division for the 2026-2027 school year, offering families in the Jackson community an education option that is grounded in our Middle School Purpose and Promise statement:
All middle school-aged children deserve a safe and inclusive school that helps them become competent and confident individuals who feel a sense of agency, are proud of who they are, are optimistic about their future, feel connected to those around them, and are prepared to succeed in our ever-changing world.
A small, independent 6-12 school, JHCS “prepares students to succeed in college and life, through challenging academics and excellence in teaching, in a community founded on personal relationships, student initiative, and integrity” (JHCS Mission).
We are currently seeking an energetic, experienced, and team-oriented Middle School Math teacher for a full-time position that starts in August 2026. JHCS emphasizes the “community” aspect of its culture and seeks candidates who are interested in committing to its vibrancy and success. Faculty members are highly collaborative individuals who are eager to offer ideas, engage in discussion, and focus on generating and improving the learner experience. We expect that each employee will operate at a superior level and offer their services broadly to serve our students and the school community at large.
This position involves teaching four sections of math courses in our middle school division. Math classes are taught in ability groups, with approximately 14 students in each section. Candidates must possess an excellent understanding of theoretical and applied algebraic and geometry skills and the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively and enthusiastically. They must have experience with project-based learning and the effective use of technology in the classroom. Candidates must understand and have empathy for the development of adolescents, be knowledgeable about appropriate curriculum, materials, and pedagogy, and be able to work well with able and highly motivated students as well as students with learning differences. The position requires energy, creativity, organization, and a strong commitment to a lively community of students and educators.
As a member of our math department and the JHCS faculty, our ideal candidate works collaboratively with colleagues and aims to instill habits of critical thinking and communication that students will draw upon during their middle and upper school years and beyond.
Other responsibilities of a full-time teacher include:
Serving as a student advisor
Communicating with colleagues, parents, and students in a timely and proactive manner
Attending all faculty/staff meetings
Attending occasional evening school events
Taking part in school trips
Offering student clubs or activities that cater to the interests and enjoyment of middle school students
Understanding that other school-related tasks, committee memberships, or duties as requested by the Director may be assigned
Minimum requirements include:
Bachelor’s degree in math or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience working with middle school students
Ability to teach using a variety of pedagogical modalities
The Jackson Hole Community School does not discriminate in employment, recruitment, admission, or the administration of any of its programs based on race, creed, national or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, or physical disability.
