Job Overview
Rice Memorial High School (RMHS) in South Burlington, Vermont seeks a dynamic, mission-driven, and student-centered Full-Time Religion Teacher to join our faculty. The successful candidate will teach courses within RMHS’s religion program and contribute to the spiritual, intellectual, and moral formation of students in grades 9–12. Rooted in Catholic teaching and committed to academic excellence, RMHS supports students in deepening their understanding of Scripture, Catholic Tradition, moral theology, philosophy, and global religious perspectives, while encouraging thoughtful reflection, dialogue, and service.
Because all RMHS students complete a religion course each year, the Religion Teacher plays a central role in advancing the school’s mission and supporting the faith life of the community.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Teaching & Instruction
Teach Religion courses aligned to RMHS curriculum and Catholic teaching.
Design and implement engaging lessons that promote inquiry, reflection, discussion, and respectful dialogue.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and a range of academic levels.
Develop and use assessments that measure student learning and support growth.
Maintain accurate records for grading, attendance, and student progress.
Potential Course Assignments
Course responsibilities may include teaching sections from the RMHS religion curriculum, including:
Scripture and Tradition I, Scripture and Tradition II, Morality & Social Justice, World Religions, Catholicism Today, Honors Philosophy
Final course assignments will depend on departmental need, teacher strengths, scheduling, and enrollment.
Faith Formation & School Mission
Support and uphold the Catholic mission of Rice Memorial High School in professional practice and classroom culture.
Foster an environment grounded in dignity, respect, compassion, and truth.
Encourage students of all backgrounds to engage thoughtfully with faith-based and moral questions.
Participate in the life of the school community, including prayer, liturgies, retreats, or service initiatives as appropriate.
Professional & Community Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Religion Department and other faculty to strengthen interdisciplinary learning and shared formation goals.
Communicate proactively with students, families, and administration.
Attend faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development sessions.
Serve as a positive and visible presence in the school community and contribute to co-curricular life (club moderation, supervision, coaching, etc.), as needed.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Education, or a related field.
Commitment to Catholic education and the mission of RMHS.
Demonstrated ability to teach theology/religion at the secondary level with clarity, fidelity, and academic rigor.
Strong classroom management and the ability to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Theology/Divinity, Religious Studies, Philosophy, or Education.
Prior teaching experience at the high school level.
Ability and willingness to support co-curricular elements of faith life such as retreats, service learning, or campus ministry initiatives.
Familiarity with adolescent faith development and formation.
Skills & Competencies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build meaningful relationships with students.
Ability to foster thoughtful dialogue across difference, supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Organized, reflective, and collaborative teaching style.
Ability to support student growth intellectually, spiritually, and morally through instruction and mentorship.
Commitment to ongoing professional growth in both pedagogy and theology.
