POSITION SUMMARY
The Hewitt School is seeking a full time upper school learning specialist for the 2025-2026 school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage all student evaluations and create and implement student education learning plans (which include learning accommodations)
Develop and implement effective and engaging individual and small group instruction to support a wide range of learning challenges
Use your knowledge of adolescent development to connect with students and build positive relationships with students and their families
Coach and serve as a resource for upper school teachers in the implementation of effective teaching practices supported by research on girls’ education
Teach semester-long ninth grade seminar focused on executive functioning, time management, active reading and notetaking, communication, and self-advocacy
Serve as a member of the upper school student support team
Maintain confidentiality and communicate with discretion
Manage and organize multiple projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail
Train as Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) coordinator with the expectation of taking on this role in the 2026-2027 school year
Apply for, advocate for, and coordinate student accommodations and testing through College Board and ACT
Communicate effectively and proactively with students, colleagues, and families
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Master’s degree in education with a specialization in special education or literacy
Experience with upper school social-emotional learning and a deep appreciation for student-centered, inquiry-based, and culturally responsive teaching practices
Experience working with upper school students
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Knowledge of and experience working in an independent school
Experience in special education mathematics
Inquiry-based pedagogy
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
Experience working with College Board and ACT
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly

SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $75,000 to $105,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
