Description:
The successful candidate will teach up to four sections of Chemistry to Upper School students, including Chemistry for all 9th grade students and an Advanced Placement Chemistry elective for juniors and seniors. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students pursuing Chemistry-related independent study projects, attending regular department and grade-team meetings, working with students in individual or small-group tutorials as needed, and communicating proactively with parents and administrators about student progress. Teachers may also be asked to take on additional duties, including serving as an advisor, club moderator, or study hall monitor.
The high school science sequence at St. Anselm’s includes Chemistry in grade 9, Physics in grade 10, AP Biology in grade 11, and a variety of electives, including AP Chemistry, in grades 11 and 12. Chemistry classes meet daily for 40 minutes, with a double lab period once per week (for a total of six meeting periods per section per week).

Requirements:
Applicants should have at least an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related field or in Education, with a master’s degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have some teaching experience (which may include student teaching experience), an appreciation for adolescent boys, and an understanding of the mission of St. Anselm’s Abbey School. Experience managing a lab, including teaching in a lab context, would be a particular asset.
