Director of Development
Meredith-Dunn School is an independent school in Louisville, KY that serves students in grades 1-8 who have been identified as having specific learning disabilities and/or other learning differences. We work collaboratively with families and other professionals in providing a vibrant educational community, rich in opportunity and respect. Position Overview We are seeking a passionate, relationship-driven Director of Development to lead and grow our fundraising efforts. This is a unique opportunity for a professional who wants to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students and families. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and a warm connector who understands the value of storytelling, stewardship, and community engagement.
This is a full-time, on-campus role reporting directly to the Head of School.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of fundraising strategy and execution, including the annual fund, major gifts, and capital campaigns
Steward existing donors and cultivate new relationships with individuals, foundations, and community partners
Plan and execute fundraising events and donor engagement opportunities
Research, write, and submit grant proposals aligned with school needs
Provide assistance in the development of the annual budget relevant to development needs and goals
Attend Board of Trustees and strategic planning meetings
Collaborate with the Head of School and Board of Trustees on development strategy and donor relations
Manage donor database and gift acknowledgment processes
Create compelling communications in support of fundraising and community-building
Represent MDS to the community and articulate the school’s mission to enhance a positive public image
Develop and implement strategies to strengthen alumni and parent engagement and increase philanthropic support
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree or CFRE a plus
Five years of experience in fundraising, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting
Proven ability to create development programs and secure major gifts
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as a member of an administrative team
Experience with fundraising software and Microsoft Office
