Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed day school for 4th through 12th grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders, and executive functioning problems. Our mission is to facilitate the independence of individuals with learning difficulties through assessment-driven individualized education, research, and outreach.
Our unique educational program for middle and upper school students with learning differences is designed to develop essential skills and challenge their strengths. Our highly successful “Focus Program,” offers each student a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on his or her greatest area of need. The implementation of the program has allowed us to further personalize instruction and strategies so that our students can better understand themselves, as well as verbalize their needs to become independent learners.
Focus teachers provide individualized remediation for students struggling with a wide range of learning differences while coordinating and facilitating consistent communication between classroom teachers and families. The nature of the position allows for someone with a varied background. In addition to those with an education or special education background, our Focus faculty includes reading specialists, speech therapists, learning specialists, school psychologists, and social workers, as well as former lawyers and copy editors.
The successful candidate will be a highly professional, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment. Candidates must also have excellent writing and communication skills.
We are proud of our diverse student body and are actively seeking candidates who reflect the diversity of our school's community.
Interested candidates should submit resumes to nyemployment@winstonprep.edu.
Founded in 1981, Winston Preparatory School is a network of eight campuses, both physical and virtual, for students ages 8-21+ with learning differences such as dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD), and nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD). Our model is based on an in-depth understanding of each student, which results in grouping by learning profile and precisely designed programming. Winston Prep accomplishes this through its Continuous Feedback System. Our expert faculty continually assess how a student is responding to their skill development plan and adjust our teaching approach based on that. Students also participate in a daily one-to-one session called Focus, designed to serve as the diagnostic, instructional, and mentoring centerpiece of their experience. At the high school level, students with appropriate levels of skill mastery may participate in college courses. For students ages 17-21+ needing more time to prepare for life beyond high school, Winston Transitions offers programming that is individually tailored to meet academic, social-emotional, employability, and life skills. Our Winston Online campus offers flexible and engaging program options for students across the country and overseas.
