Teacher of High School Theology

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications: 

• A Bachelor’s degree in Theology is required.
• A Master’s degree in Theology is desirable.
• NJ Teacher Certification and/or prior middle or secondary school teaching experience is desirable.
• Experience coordinating schoolwide campus ministry, fostering spiritual growth, organizing faith-based programs, and engaging students in meaningful religious activities.
• Demonstrates solid understanding of strategies to teach, assess, and promote compelling reading, writing, and critical thinking/analysis.
• Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, understands the adolescent learner, and is flexible and energetic. 
• Is willing to be involved with students in an extracurricular capacity, such as a coach/club moderator.
• Demonstrates proficiency in relevant computer and software applications.
• Demonstrates the ability to confer with parents and students in a cooperative effort to understand the student and to encourage progress.

Functions of the Job:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments in accordance with established procedures that facilitate active learning.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Incorporate a variety of strategies to teach, assess, and promote effective learning.
• Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Provide timely, appropriate feedback on work.
• Observe, encourage, and monitor individual students' progress, and use this information to adjust teaching strategies.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's rules and disciplinary systems.
• Participate in department, division, school, and parent meetings.
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents about student progress and needs.
• Interact with students in an extracurricular capacity, such asa  coach/club moderator.
• Be flexible and energetic.

St. Augustine Preparatory School is an independent, all-boys Catholic preparatory school located in Southern New Jersey. The school is owned, sponsored and staffed by the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova and operates under the auspices of the Order of St. Augustine. The Prep has educated young men since 1959. The school is proudly accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the New Jersey State Educational Association, the Diocese of Camden, and the Augustinian Educational Association. Enrollment is currently at 701 boys and entrance to the school is very competitive. The student body is comprised of young men from seven counties in Southern New Jersey.
