General Summary: Severn School is searching for a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Upper School Digital Art and Photography for March 30 – May 26 of 2026.
Essential Functions: This position covers an extended teacher absence and requires maintaining continuity in curriculum, instruction, and classroom management while supporting student creativity and skill development. Specifics about the role:
Deliver instruction in Digital Photography, guiding students in camera operation, exposure settings, and editing with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.
Teach Graphic Design projects using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva.
Lead Darkroom Photography lessons, including film development, chemical mixing, and printing using 35mm cameras and enlargers.
Supervise Yearbook production through Jostens Yearbook Avenue, ensuring continued progress on the Spring supplement.
Instruct 9th grade Visual Arts Principles, facilitating projects in Photoshop, the darkroom, and Illustrator.
Serve as an advisor to a group of 9th grade students.
Communicate regularly with students, staff, and administration to ensure a smooth transition during the long-term assignment.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have experience with Adobe Creative Suite and darkroom processes. Teaching experience, certification, or eligibility are preferred. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills are a must.
