Harbor Day School, an independent K-8 school in Corona del Mar, California, is seeking a long-term substitute for a 7^th and 8^th Grade Science teaching position. The position start date will be sometime early this spring and goes until the end of the school year. Middle School Science at Harbor Day is a rigorous spiral curriculum emphasizing concepts mainly pertaining to Life and Physical Science. Candidates should have a science degree or a degree in a closely related field and have a solid understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of biological systems, cell biology, classical mechanics and physical science. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be able to develop engaging and inquiry-based, innovative lessons that allow students to grow academically, socially and emotionally.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Follow daily lesson plans and learning activities for 7^th and 8^th grade students based on national, local and school standards in science education and research
• Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent laboratory practice using a variety of proven methods
• Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks or other standard test practices
• Incorporate technology and hands-on learning experiences in the classroom with enthusiasm
• Serve as an advisor to a group of middle school students
• Lunch and recess duties
