Webb School of Knoxville is a PreK – 12th grade independent preparatory school located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Enrollment at the school is approximately 1,100. Athletics play an integral role in the Webb School experience. They are an extension of our classrooms where dynamic growth transpires; where our students continue to learn about hard work, perseverance, and dedication toward a goal. Our emphasis is on chasing competitive excellence in every sport we offer. We have a proud history of growing successful teams that compete at advanced levels. Webb School boasts 84 state championships – 45 in girls, 39 in boys – in 14 different sports, including 8 in football. Over 75% of our students in grades 6 through 12 participate in at least one athletic team. Spartan graduates have gone on to play at colleges and universities across the nation, as well as professionally. Our seasoned coaching staff, which includes over 80 coaching positions, and our outstanding facilities are cornerstones of a storied athletics tradition.
Our facilities are impressive. We have three gyms, 4 fields, 3 indoor tennis courts, football stadium and turf football and lacrosse field, track, and running course. Since the fall of 2023, we have added to our athletic facilities a comprehensive lights projects, new softball complex, indoor hitting and pitching facility, turf lacrosse field, and sports performance center which included an indoor turf field, weight room, cardio mezzanine, golf simulator and team meeting room along with a full-time Director of Sports Performance and 2 full-time athletic trainers.
Job Summary
Head Football Coach/Program Director
The Head Football Coach/Program Director is responsible for shaping and guiding all aspects of the program and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. The head coach must be a dynamic, innovative, and inspirational leader with a demonstrated commitment and passion for working with young people while collaborating effectively with parents, faculty, administration, and colleagues. They will emphasize the importance of a positive team culture, demonstrate a winning attitude, model exceptional sportsmanship, and will be a skilled teacher of fundamentals, technique, and character. They will support the school’s mission in providing opportunities for each student to develop their full potential academically, socially, and physically. This is a full-time position with responsibilities to be determined based upon the candidates qualifications.
Head Football Coach/Program Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize and implement the teaching of techniques, strategies, and proper to include but not exclusive to in-season, off-season and spring practice
Collaborate closely with the athletic trainers, medical team, and strength & conditioning staff to ensure player health, safety, and performance optimization.
Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship; compile and maintain accurate performance statistics and records; utilize athletic administration curriculum
Work well with other sports and school programming to allow for students pursuing appropriately balanced multi-sport/activity opportunities
Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program; provide for the safety by inspecting facilities/equipment and being aware of environmental conditions
Issue, collect, inventory, store equipment and uniforms consistent with department guidelines in a timely manner. Adhere to TSSAA uniform regulations
Develop and maintain positive, productive relationships with the entire Webb community
Maintain and appropriately allocate a budget for the program
Assist in the college recruitment process in conjunction with college counseling
Recruit, hire, and supervise all members of the coaching staff at every level of the program while establishing clear expectations and standards
Promote professional growth among staff through mentorship, clinics, and continuing education.
Utilize video analysis, scouting, and performance data to inform game strategy and player development.
Facilitate coaches, team, and parent meetings
Comply with the rules, expectations and regulations of Webb and the TSSAA
Timely and consistent communication of scheduling logistics throughout the school year and enforcement of all team and school policies relating to all activities according to the employee and athletic department handbook
Actively participate in and contribute to Camp Webb programming
Serve as the primary ambassador for Webb football to prospective students, families, and youth programs.
Collaborate with the admissions department to support outreach and recruitment strategies that align with school enrollment goals and all applicable TSSAA rules.
Energy, resilience, and presence befitting the leadership of a premier football program
Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Qualifications include, but are not limited to the following:
Embraces Webb School’s stated mission statement with integrity, respect and a collaborative-approach across campus to include multiple departments and divisions
Has extensive knowledge and successful experience coaching at the high school and/or intercollegiate level, with preference given to those who have served as a head coach
Takes the initiative and possesses the motivation needed to energize, lead and grow an athletic program in a K-12, coed independent school environment
Familiarity with TSSAA policies and procedures preferred
