Job Description
Ashley Hall seeks a full-time Strings teacher for grades 5-12. The position is anticipated to begin September 12, 2025 through December 15, 2025. The candidate will be responsible for teaching string ensemble classes for the Middle School and Upper School grades and preparing and conducting students for performances.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
The successful candidate will have a love for teaching and working with 10-18 year olds predominantly in 5-11 student class sizes, placing them at the center of their learning experience. Such an inspirational teacher must be energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and possess an excellent knowledge and understanding of the subjects they are to teach. The ideal candidate must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students and embrace the school's mission and vision.
Major Responsibilities
Foster a joyful learning environment that involves students in the music making process.
Prepare students and conduct orchestra for annual Christmas Play (Grades 7-12)
Prepare and conduct students for the IP Showcase performance (Grades 5-6)
Work collaboratively with Performing Arts faculty on performance productions and preparation.
Communicate with parents regarding performance details.
Teach and engage string students of mixed levels within the same class.
Teach a wide range of levels of students across the grade levels including beginners.
Maintain a gradebook and submit comments/grades in accordance with the division's academic schedule.
Develop engaging lesson plans designed to foster intellectual curiosity and a love of learning music while ensuring any curricular sequence or framework provided by the teacher on leave is followed.
Act as an academic advisor for a group of seventh grade students.
Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-8 to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.
Ancillary duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Key Requirements
The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:
Minimum of 3 years of string ensemble teaching experience
3 years of teaching experience working with middle and/or upper grades students; specifically those in grades 5-8 is preferred.
Bachelor's Degree (required) or Master's degree (preferred) in Music Education (strings emphasis) or Music Performance (string instrument).
Expertise in string pedagogy (specifically violin, viola, cello).
Professional performance experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass
Interest in and proficiency with developmentally-appropriate strategies for teaching middle school and high school aged children.
Curriculum development knowledge.
Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.
