Forman School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school for boarding and day students with identified learning differences. Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive college counseling program that reflects best practices and supports the diverse needs of Forman students.
Oversee all members of the College Counseling Department, including the Associate Director, Assistant College Counselor, Administrative Assistant, and College Counseling Coordinator.
Regularly assess and refine the college counseling program to incorporate new programming and initiatives that best serve students and the community. Provide leadership in strategic planning and initiatives that promote the school’s mission and values.
Oversee the annual department budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources. Oversee and direct the daily operations of the College Counseling Office, ensuring efficient, effective, and ethical processes.
Develop and maintain organizational systems for all aspects of the Post-Forman planning process, ensuring accurate data management.
Create and disseminate resources such as the college counseling handbook, e-newsletters, website content, and resource guides.
Manage a caseload comprising approximately half of the junior and senior classes, providing individualized guidance through all aspects of the post-secondary planning process in a way that fully supports our students with learning differences.
Leadership & Program Oversight:
•Work collaboratively with faculty, advisors, administrators, and other stakeholders to support students through the post-secondary planning process. •Engage with students and families to provide guidance on the various aspects of the college process, including standardized testing and best practices. •Evaluate transcripts, coursework, test scores, and learning profiles to inform counseling strategies and recommendations.
•Maintain consistent communication with students and families via email, Zoom, and phone to ensure transparency and support throughout the college application process.
•Author thoughtful, detailed, and supportive counselor letters of recommendation for all counselees.
•Provide resources and guidance to colleagues on writing effective letters of recommendation. •Edit and provide feedback on teacher and counselor recommendations as needed. •Teach one Post-Secondary Planning course per trimester.
Manage the college counseling process for postgraduate students, providing individualized support to students and families. Oversee and manage the student recommendation process. Oversee the Post-Secondary Planning I & II courses, including curriculum development and implementation.
Coordinate and facilitate informational programming for students and families, including presentations and programming during Fall & Spring Family Weekends. Coordinate with the Director of Studies and Director of Athletics to align academic and extracurricular programs with the college readiness goals. Serve as a liaison between the College Counseling Office and college admissions representatives, maintaining and cultivating relationships to advocate for Forman students.
Required to be present at all standardized test administrations offered at the Forman School. Duties will vary depending on the test date and specific needs. Support and guide students in creating a standardized testing plan that aligns with their individual needs and preferences, and those seeking resources for standardized test preparation. Stay abreast of changes in the standardized testing landscape and continuously evaluate Forman’s approach. Assess standardized test options and make informed decisions on offerings to ensure equity and access for all students. Facilitate and encourage professional development opportunities for all members of the College Counseling Team.
Bachelor’s degree.
At least 5 years of experience in college counseling or college admissions.
Strong writing and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and communicate with clarity and warmth.
Familiarity with post-secondary options for neurodiverse learners, including college students with LD/ADHD support programs, gap year options, and transition programs.
Proficiency with college counseling tools (Common App, Naviance, FAFSA, etc.).
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity to students’ individual needs.
Preferred: Master’s degree in education, school counseling, or related field. Experience working with students with learning differences. Experience working within a school setting, collaborating with educators and support staff.
