Indian Mountain School is seeking a Director of Student Health and Wellness to lead our school-wide efforts to support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical experience, collaborative leadership, and the ability to guide a multidisciplinary team in fostering a healthy, balanced, and supportive community. The Director will oversee the Health Services Team—including Counseling, the Health Center, and Health and Wellness classes—and will work closely with faculty, administrators, and families to ensure that student health and wellness are integrated into all aspects of school life.
Candidates should be organized, compassionate, and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to manage programs, personnel, and budgets effectively. A master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, or a related field is required, along with relevant licensure or certification. A minimum of five years of experience in a school or clinical setting is preferred. This is a full-time, twelve-month administrative position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee and supervise the Counselors as well as the Health and Wellness Teachers
Manage the Health Services budget in conjunction with the CFO
Review Health Services policies annually with the medical team
Facilitate weekly Student Support Team meetings for Upper and Lower Campus and the Counseling Department
Participate as a member of the Risk Management Team
Participate in weekly medical meetings with nurses, counselors, and the athletic trainer
Develop and oversee internal and external programming related to community health and wellness, including engaging outside speakers and supervising Health and Wellness curriculum in partnership with relevant administrators
Provide individual and group counseling with students on the lower and upper campus
Provide responsive support to students experiencing urgent personal, emotional, or mental-health crises, including availability during non-standard or after-hours situations when necessary.
Internally and externally coordinate and communicate student medical leave procedures
Review admissions files and meet with prospective families as needed
Work in partnership with Supervise the Counselors, Director of Nursing and Medical Care, Health and Wellness Teacher, and Medical Director
This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Student Life for the execution of all responsibilities.
Counselor
To provide individual counseling and psych-educational group work to students
To be liaison with outside clinicians, parents and schools when necessary
To help find appropriate clinicians in the community
To attend weekly student support and medical meetings and assess students’ needs for counseling
To maintain records on all students in treatment inclusive of session notes, assessments and recommendations
Conduct Fireside Talks-typically 3x/term
To be available for dorm faculty and teachers during school and evening hours for consultation about students as well as for assessment in times of crisis
Work closely with the Residential Life Department to plan and facilitate activities for residential curriculum. Maybe evening or weekend hours.
To conduct internal investigation when necessary to assure the safety of students and professional conduct of faculty and staff
To make reports of abuse and neglect to appropriate state offices in consultation with the Head of School
To provide information and presentations to the faculty about adolescent issues and development
To maintain confidentiality with the student and families, and communicate helpful information to faculty on a “need to know” basis
Support and guide the faculty about maintaining healthy boundaries and working relationships with students
Attend weekly faculty meetings
