National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a part-time Grade 6 Spanish teacher for an appointment beginning August 14, 2025 through June 12, 2026. The primary goal of the World Languages department is to develop the fundamentals of vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, while fostering the skills required for language study. Language classes in the Lower School offer a strong focus on developing oral proficiency. Students practice speaking in class while improving their writing and grammatical skills.
The position teaches one section of Grade 6 Spanish (3-4 times a week) and works closely with the full-time LS Spanish teacher to ensure instruction, assessments, assignments, and expectations are the same for all sections. It is approximately 6-8 hours per week.
The salary range is $20,000 to $25,000, based on experience.
The National Cathedral School is grounded in the Episcopal promise to honor the dignity of every human being. We believe a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community fosters intellectual excellence and empathy needed to amplify the collective power of young women to enrich and improve a dynamic world. We therefore seek candidates who will embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to ensure a strongly connected and engaged community in and outside of the classroom.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate native or near-native fluency in Spanish, have experience in teaching Spanish, preferably at the elementary level, and show a commitment to working with this age-group. The successful candidate will help students embrace a love of Spanish while maintaining a challenging curriculum within a nurturing environment. The school expects candidates to have a willingness and ability to use differentiated instruction in the classroom. Teachers utilize a student-centered pedagogy and technology as a teaching tool as well as a student resource. NCS seeks an experienced classroom teacher who has a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation.
Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a related field.
