The Middle School Physical Education teacher will deliver instruction to students in various strands of Physical Education, serve as a student advisor for a group of students, and assume other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Middle School. The position is Full Time (10 month) Exempt.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional
Plan, organize, and provide instruction in all strands of Physical Education.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom.
Prepare motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student abilities.
Encourage an inclusive environment that accepts different perspectives andbackgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective.
Utilize a variety of assessments and use data to develop lessons and instructional activities as needed.
Seek opportunities for ongoing professional learning.
Adhere to MVA’s standards for faculty members regarding teaching, service, and scholarship as outlined in the Faculty and MVA Employee Handbooks.
Teaching and Learning Environment
Create a learning environment that is motivating and age-appropriate.
Set clear expectations for classwork and homework.
Maintain current textbooks and other instructional resources that support student learning.
Actively seek to understand students’ strengths and weaknesses.
Maintain complete and accurate records of student attendance and progress.
Respond promptly and with care to parent concerns, and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. Prior teaching experience, a Master’s degree, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to extracurricular programming are preferred.
Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Physical requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the Academy’s facilities.
