Springdale Preparatory School seeks a qualified and experienced candidate to serve as the Director of Residential Life. We are looking for candidates who are excited for the opportunity to create and implement a successful residential life program at a critical point in the school’s development. This position is a pivotal member of the School’s Administrative Leadership team and will lead the development and implementation of the school’s residential life strategic plan, as the Springdale’s residential program quickly expands.
This position uses research and best practices to create a residential program that supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being and development of residential students. The Director maintains an active presence in the residential life program, manage and train residential staff, ensure residential and community standards, policies, and procedures are consistent, and followed, and oversee all the logistics of the residential life program.
This position supervises the residential life staff, including two female and three male residential life instructors and other supervisory staff. This position also manages the dorm staff shift schedule and ensures dorm staff participate in required training, such as CPR and medication technician certifications.

Essential Functions of the position include:
Provide strategic direction, implementation, evaluation, and communication regarding all aspects of the residential life program, use research and best practices to ensure consistent practices that align with the school’s mission and vision
Contribute to an environment which supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being and development of students
Uphold the code of conduct, honor code, student handbook, residential life handbook, and school standards and expectations
Oversee the response to residential life violations in conjunction with the Dean of Students
Manage, develop, and implement the school’s residential life program, including policies and procedures, updates to residential life handbooks, training requirements, etc.
Maintain an active presence in the residential life program, including maintaining an adult presence on evenings and weekends, serving as the primary supervisor to one of the dorms during the academic year, and participates in dorm duty shifts
Establish training procedures for all residential life staff and ensure staff maintain proper certifications, including CPR/First Aid and medication technician certifications
On-board, train, and supervise residential life staff; maintain dorm supervision schedule, hold staff meetings, promote positive working relationships, and ensure residential and community standards policies and procedures are upheld
Coordinate student care in collaboration with the dean of students, residential staff, counselors, nurse, and faculty
Proactively maintain communication with parents/guardians and serve as the primary advocate for students as it pertains to residential life
Manage and oversee the logistics of the residential life program
Coordinate with food service about meal needs and special events for the boarding community
Plan, develop, and maintain a calendar for residential life activities, including evening and weekend activities that contribute towards a positive student experience
Collaborate with the admissions team, international program manager, and other administrators to support the unique needs of international students
Proactively build positive relationships with students to build a culture of safety, respect, engagement, and responsibility
Qualified applicants should hold the following in education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field (required)
Master’s degree in education or related field (preferred)
5-7 years in Housing/Residential Life and/or Student Life
Hold an active or willingness to obtain a CDL class B driver's license with appropriate endorsements, P (passenger) & S (school bus)
Hold a regular non-commercial driver’s license
Proficiency with or ability to learn Blackbaud or other online learning platforms
Experience in managing and resolving conflicts
Understanding of the critical development issues facing adolescents
Detail-oriented, with the capacity to effectively and efficiently manage numerous small and large tasks
Working knowledge of technology systems, including networks and hardware management
Enjoy working in a cooperative, team-oriented environment with adults and students
Culturally competent, responsive, and sensitive to diverse populations
Working Conditions and Schedule:
This position is expected to live on campus in a private apartment in one of the residential dormitories and be a visible and active member of the school community.
Must be able to drive students to and from activities days and evenings.
Must be available to provide support for off-hours, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
