Northfield Mount Hermon School, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to teach religious studies and philosophy in a collaborative humanities curriculum designed to engage students in exploring the ways people are shaped by religions and philosophies. This position begins with the fall semester of the 2026-2027 academic year.
Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, student advising, resident dormitory supervision, and coaching or equivalents. Candidates are encouraged to include in their application experiences that may support our athletic and student life program.
We reasonably expect to compensate for this position between $48,163 and $57,049, based on years of experience. Final compensation may vary depending on workload and relevant experience.
The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in religious studies, philosophy, or a related field (master’s preferred) and the ability to teach a variety of introductory and intermediate level religious studies and philosophy courses, including introductory religious studies and philosophy, world religions, ethics, and philosophy. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within an interdisciplinary curriculum, and knowledge of current technologies for teaching.
Candidates must be familiar with boarding school life and have an interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents. They will demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse community environment and a clear understanding of anti-bias education.
