At Tilton School, we are a community in pursuit of knowing, supporting, and challenging each other as we learn to do hard things well. Our faculty design learning experiences that build the essential skills and sensibilities our students will need to be life-ready, at college and beyond. As such, we seek a compelling and passionate educator to teach four-to-five sections of French language at various levels and possibly other humanities-related courses in our curriculum. Flexibility and experience to teach across two or more domains in the humanities is preferred, but not a requirement for consideration.
As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute two seasons in the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position can include housing.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
embrace an initiative-driven faculty culture focused on advancing Tilton School’s mission
possess an understanding of current teaching pedagogies and adolescent development
model flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student
plan lessons, teach, evaluate and provide feedback for communicative and intercultural competency
have native or near-native fluency in French
understand the essentials of and possess a desire to learn more about comprehensible input
understand the essentials of teaching for communicative and intercultural competency, as well as be committed to developing curricula to suit the department’s initiatives
possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and perspectives
demonstrate fluency with academic technology that advances learning for students and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom experiences
enjoy collaborating with colleagues within and across subject areas, and all aspects of school life
invest in the community and participate in the lives of our students outside of the classroom
convey patience, empathy, enthusiasm, and optimism in their work with adolescents and faculty
possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, faculty and other employees
commit to self-reflection, work independently, and pursue professional growth and networking opportunities that will allow for full engagement in discovering and implementing best practices in this role
Other duties for this position include: advising, participation as an athletic coach or activities leader for two seasons each year and active participation in our residential program including weeknight-weekend supervision.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Preferred: Experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post-secondary instruction.
