Position Overview & Responsibilities
The IDEAS team leader will report to the Associate Head of School and is responsible for growing, developing, and leading the people, place, and program within IDEAS. This includes oversight of the Diploma in Entrepreneurial Studies.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy: Lead the IDEAS team and collaborate with other IDEAS@PDS faculty to manage the program's evolution.
Curriculum Design: Teach a reduced load and redesign a variety of learning experiences, designing and facilitating IDEAS learning opportunities.
Program Engagement: Foster curiosity and passion for IDEAS at the Lower, Middle, and Upper School levels through curriculum, guest speakers, and experiential learning opportunities like the partnership with our school store, the Fall Fest and Winter Market, and opportunities with community vendors.
About the Mortiz IDEAS Department
The IDEAS department is an interdisciplinary program designed to integrate Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship, Analytics, and Sustainability into the student experience. Rather than treating technology as a standalone subject, the department weaves these five pillars into every aspect of teaching and learning, encouraging students to work collaboratively across traditional academic boundaries.
IDEASxChange & Resources
The hub of the department is the IDEASxChange, a creative multi-use space located in the Dickson-Hemby Technology Center. This recently renovated facility promotes interaction between students and faculty while providing access to state-of-the-art equipment, including 3d printers, laser cutters, robotics, drones, esports arena, and more.
Student Opportunities
The program offers students the freedom to forge new paths in a variety of modern fields, including pursuing a Diploma of Entrepreneurial Studies. Specific areas of exploration and activities include:
Diploma of Entrepreneurial Studies (DES): The DES is a supplemental/additional diploma that complements the Providence Day diploma.Through academic and co-curricular opportunities, students develop the mindsets, skills, and leadership qualities to create meaningful ventures and solve real problems.
Computational Thinking: AP Computer Science, Web Development, App Development
Finance & Entrepreneurship: Opportunities such as the Investment Management Society and student-led Hackathons.
Media & Arts: Video production, podcasting, and events like the annual Student Film Festival.
STEM Applications: Engineering, green building practices (LEED), drone studies, and robotics.
Esports: A growing program featuring both courses and competitive clubs.
Robotics and Drones:Another growing program featuring both courses and competitive clubs.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.
Preferred: Advanced degree in fields adjacent to innovation, design, entrepreneurship, analytics, and sustainability.
Experience: Candidates must have experience in entrepreneurship, teaching, leading teams, and managing change.
