We are seeking a passionate and dependable full-time Latin teacher to join our team. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, teaching Latin through the Reading Method, tailoring lesson plans, homework, and assessments, as well as participation in the school’s Junior Classical League program. This position will require an individual who is able to handle a wide range of responsibilities and other duties required of a Saint Thomas’ Episcopal School faculty member.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Create a teaching experience orientated to a reading proficiency approach, particularly with the Cambridge Latin Course.
Prepare subject-specific lessons and assessments relating to Latin reading comprehension, language acquisition (vocabulary, grammar), culture, and history.
Teach students about Roman history, which may include cultural topics such as daily life, archaeological artifacts, religion and festivals, dress and other social conventions.
Differentiate instruction using multiple strategies to support a range of learning needs.
Analyze student data to guide instructional decisions, refine lessons, and provide triggered support.
Design formative and summative assessments that provide useful data to guide instruction and measure student progress.
Create and maintain a well-organized, supportive learning environment that attends to students’ social, emotional, and executive functioning needs.
Provide the structure and support students need to work independently while holding them to high academic and behavioral expectations.
Maintain accurate records using both the learning management system, VeraCross
Serve as a homeroom teacher.
Follow the professional code and policies of the school and conduct oneself in a way that promotes the mission of the school.
Utilize Google Suite, in particular Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets.
Attend all faculty and staff meetings and required special events (e.g., open houses, Spaghetti Supper, Fall Fair).
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education / Certification: Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Latin or Classics or related field
Experience Required: Minimum of 2-years related work experience
Required Knowledge: Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite (Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets), Smartboard
Classification: Exempt
Skills / Abilities:
Strong knowledge of and affinity for Latin
Experience with Google Apps for Education and/or course-specific technologies (such as Cambridge Elevate). Ability and willingness to integrate technology in content delivery/skill development
Lesson planning and the ability to provide engaging and differentiated instruction
Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others
Able to communicate complex information clearly
Ability to communicate with and motivate children
Willingness to contribute to the general welfare of the school and its students beyond the classroom
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an eye for detail and clarity
Able to coordinate well with other departments and personnel
Maintaining confidentiality and privacy in communications with parents, students, faculty, and staff
