Director of Experiential Education and Service Learning for Grades 5-8
The Director of Experiential Education and Service Learning for Grades 5-8 is a full-time 9.5-month (plus 5 days in the summer) position and reports directly to the Head of Middle School. This position combines oversight of the Middle School community service program and experiential learning opportunities for grades 5-8. Major responsibilities of the position are to develop and coordinate community service programming, plan experiential travel opportunities for 7th and 8th grade, work with faculty and staff in grades 5-8 to plan experiential educational trips and projects, and create and teach enrichment courses for the Middle School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities
Possesses a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration and collegiality.
Cultivates and maintains relationships with community service partners.
Collaborates with Director of Community Service and the Leadership Institute to ensure consistency of community service programming across divisions.
Plans and oversees Middle School Community Service trips and other service learning opportunities.
Plans and chaperones 7th and 8th grade week-long experiential travel trips.
Recruits and trains faculty and staff chaperones in preparation for week-long experiential travel trips.
Coordinates and assists in Legacy initiatives with the Advancement Office, Divisional Leadership, and other school departments.
Develops the curriculum and teaches enrichment courses for Middle School. Current courses include Service Learning with opportunities to expand offerings.
Act as a Middle School advisor for one section of students. Advisors serve as the point person for communication with the parents of the advisory students.
Conduct parent teacher conferences at scheduled intervals and on an as needed basis.
Advises or co-advises the Middle School National Junior Honor Society chapter.
Manage and monitor student learning.
Assist with extra-curricular activities as assigned.
Coordinate with other instructors and administration to develop the total child.
Adhere to Parish Episcopal “Characteristics of Effective Teaching.”
Perform assigned duties such as carpool and lunch duties.
Maintain professional credentials as required by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) or other accrediting agencies.
Promote the school’s statement of mission and philosophy.
Ability to drive 14 passenger school bus.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends Chapel
Attends school functions such as Middle School Parent Night, Admission Open House, Fieldtrips/Class Trips
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
3-5 years’ experience in teaching or non-profit experience.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills and tact in dealing with parents, other instructors and students in school setting.
Must have experience working with children and demonstrate desire to do same.
Ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with students of all ages, set good example for students, and comply with school policy and procedures.
An extremely well-organized, detail-oriented individual who has a high energy level together with an accompanying sense of urgency.
Ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity.
Demonstrated experience as a leader within a school, civic, or corporate setting.
A flexible individual able to easily handle a variety of duties simultaneously.
