Lowell School, a progressive independent school in NW Washington, DC, seeks a Math Specialist to cover a parental leave from September through December 2025. The Math Specialist works with students, teachers, and families in grades kindergarten through eighth grade by providing small-group mathematics instruction within and outside the classroom. The Math Specialist reports to and collaborates with the Primary School and Middle School Division Directors.
Major Responsibilities:
Lead targeted small group instruction based on school-wide assessment data
Effectively communicate with students, families, and faculty with regard to student progress in math
Meet regularly with teachers in grades K-8 to discuss assessment data, review student learning profiles, and design student support strategies
Effectively integrate technology into instruction
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in mathematics, math education, or a related field preferred
Experience teaching math at the elementary or middle school level
Experience working with students with a range of learning styles and needs
Demonstrated experience using data to inform instructional decision-making
Proficiency with Google Suite, Chromebooks, and other classroom technologies
Proven ability to work collaboratively
Experience or familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics and/or Art of Problem Solving a plus
Experience leading math intervention in upper elementary and middle school grades
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in an emergency.
Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The Expected Salary: $18,000 - $ 21,000
