Overview
Serving students in PreK3 through eighth grade, Corbett Prep values a vibrant, inclusive community where curiosity, creativity, talent development, and a growth mindset are at the heart of teaching and learning. The Assistant Head of Academics is a senior leadership role responsible for the vision, alignment, and execution of all academic programming across the school. This leader ensures coherence across divisions, cultivates strong teaching and assessment practices, and partners closely with faculty, families, and the Head of School to advance the school’s mission.

Primary Responsibilities
The Assistant Head of Academics oversees all aspects of PreK–8 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and faculty growth. This position supervises division heads, curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches, and student support teams, while ensuring strong IB alignment, SEL integration, and talent development across the school. Responsibilities include leading academic professional development, developing a clear schoolwide scope and sequence, strengthening differentiation and assessment systems, and partnering with the Head of School on strategic academic priorities.

In this role, the Assistant Head of Academics will lead the strengthening of horizontal and vertical alignment across all grade levels and disciplines, ensuring a coherent, mission-driven academic experience for every student. The leader will guide the creation of consistent, data-informed assessment practices and support faculty in deepening differentiation to meet the needs of diverse learners. A key opportunity is to develop a coordinated, intentional professional development program that nurtures teacher growth and supports instructional excellence.
The position also offers the chance to build stronger structures for collaboration, reflection, and innovation among faculty, bringing teams together across divisions to elevate best practices. Ultimately, the Assistant Head of Academics will serve as a visible, relational, and strategic partner who helps advance Corbett Prep’s culture of joyful learning, serious education, and whole-child development.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree in education or a related field and have substantial experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, or academic administration. They will bring demonstrated success in coaching teachers, designing professional learning, and strengthening assessment and differentiation practices across multiple grade levels. Experience with the IB framework, SEL integration (ideally RULER and the Four Pillars of Wellbeing), and accreditation processes is preferred. The ideal candidate will embody a joyful presence and a genuine love of working with children and adults. They will be humble, reflective, coachable, and eager to learn Corbett Prep's culture. Strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead collaboratively within a nurturing, community-oriented environment are essential.

Corbett Prep faculty consists of more than 110 full-time professional teachers, administrators, and support staff, as well as an amazing facilities team. Classroom teachers comply with state and/or Florida Council of Independent School standards and hold the credentials necessary to teach in a Florida school. Many hold advanced degrees and are endorsed in Gifted Education from the University of South Florida College of Education Gifted Program.
