The ideal candidate is passionate about mathematics and about educating and supporting young students at all levels—from those with learning differences to those who excel in math. They must value students’ social-emotional well-being and unique learning styles while successfully implementing best practices. They must demonstrate strong communication, administrative, critical thinking and organizational skills and possess a positive, engaging personality and the willingness to work collaboratively with other learning specialists, administration, faculty, staff and parents/caregivers. The successful candidate demonstrates strong emotional intelligence, values healthy relationships and sees the best in each student.
The Specialist will provide explicit instruction in core academic areas, specifically mathematics, and must have experience working with students with mathematics-related learning differences. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of essential components of Singapore Math (Math in Focus) and experience in implementing multisensory, research-based interventions, accommodations and modifications to curricula where necessary. A proven track record in developing targeted lesson plans in math, assessing and monitoring student growth, and analyzing diagnostic assessments is essential. A desire to be an active member of the school community is vital. The Specialist is part of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) team and reports to the ARC's Lower School Director and the Head of Lower School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates a warm, welcoming environment in the ARC for students, parents/caregivers, faculty and staff
Meets regularly with the Lower School ARC Director
Maintains confidentiality and student integrity
Develops detailed lesson objectives for students that align with their learning profiles
Explicitly teaches concepts and strategies to support academic success in mathematics skills content and problem-solving
Composes grade-specific session plans for Upper School students mentoring students in grades one through five
Supports the management of additional math support and enrichment programs before school
Meets with faculty and parents to discuss student progress
Works collaboratively with other Learning Specialists
Composes progress reports for each student receiving ARC support
Completes checklists and questionnaires as requested by outside specialists/evaluators
Analyzes psycho-educational evaluations and uses them to inform instructional goals
Leads parent meetings to discuss learning objectives and strategies
Creates systems that aid students’ organizational skills
Collaborates with Pace faculty and outside professionals (ex., psychologists, speech-language pathologists, etc.) to address students’ needs
Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture
Attends mandatory training, professional development and education in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion
Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
Attends faculty meetings, grade-level parent gatherings, admissions testing, and other required school-wide events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in special education or elementary education, master’s degree required
Experience as a learning specialist or in special education required (i.e., experience with dyscalculia, ADHD and neurodiverse learners)
Experience teaching math in an elementary school setting
Certification or additional training in Singapore Math approach preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Adaptability in dealing with change to ensure the general welfare of the school
Love of young children and their development
A positive outlook, sense of humor, flexibility and a collaborative, nurturing nature
Belief in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of a school to foster a sense of belonging
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Classroom environment that may regularly require the employee to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop or kneel
Ability to sit at a computer desk for an extended period
Ability to operate a computer, smart board and/or projector
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 30-50 lbs with assistance
