JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Early Childhood Teacher has an expertise in supporting young learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. This position joins a collaborative faculty dedicated to providing a nurturing, academically rigorous, and inclusive learning environment. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the Department Chair and the Lower School Director.

Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the school’s mission and curriculum standards.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning profiles of students, with particular attention to those with learning differences.
Utilize evidence-based, multi-sensory, and structured literacy approaches to support early reading and writing skills (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar programs).
Integrate concrete, visual, and hands-on strategies to enhance mathematical understanding for students with
Apply proactive classroom management and executive functioning support for students with
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
Collaborate closely with learning specialists, counselors, and administrators to design individualized learning plans and ensure cohesive support.
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, providing insights on progress and strategies for at-home
Contribute positively to the school community through participation in professional development, team meetings, and school events.
Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with Dyslexia and LD and teachers in their efforts to advance students with learning differences.
Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.
Enthusiastic collaboration with the Grade level
Direct one-on-one or small-group
Prepare lesson plans
Document progress, assist goals for students
Developing and issuing educational content including notes, tests, and
Supervising classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive
Organizing supplies and resources for lectures and
Delivering personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive
Planning and implementing educational activities and
Ensuring your classroom is clean and
Preparing and distributing periodic progress reports and semester report
Attending parent-teacher
Evaluating and documenting students’
Allocating and grading homework, assignments, and
Work with parents, faculty, and division heads when academic concerns arise regarding
Implement a focus on technology use and adoption within the
Represent the school at educational conferences and
Participate in any accreditation process for the
Attend all staff meetings and staff
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Lower School or the Head of
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Master’s Preferred)
Valid teaching certification in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
Experience:
Specialized training or experience in teaching students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and/or
Familiarity with structured literacy programs (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, ) strongly preferred
Experience in independent schools, with a strong background in subject content
Exceptionally capable in both written and oral communication
Excellent organizational and presentation skills
Technologically savvy
Proven success at working collaboratively
Passionate about early learning, differentiation, and building strong partnerships with families to support each student’s growth and confidence.

The Briarwood School is a not-for-profit, independent co-ed day school devoted to educating students in grades K-12 with diagnosed learning disabilities, language disorders and/or ADHD. Founded in 1967 and accredited by Cognia, The Briarwood School serves over 300 students in small class sizes of 10 or fewer students. All of the students in Lower, Middle and Upper Schools demonstrate average to above-average intelligence with a broad range of learning disabilities that include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, speech/language disorders, along with written and expressive language disorders. Additional diagnoses addressed through accommodations include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and processing disorders as they relate to academic issues.
