Sayre seeks a dedicated professional who loves middle school students to teach in our English program. Sayre’s mission focuses on fostering academic excellence, embracing challenge, and cultivating integrity. The Middle School places special emphasis on meeting the needs of the whole child in the areas of cognitive, social, emotional, and aesthetic development.
The successful candidate holds a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in English, Education, or a related field, an interest in collaborating with a team of teachers, a strong sense of purpose in education, expertise in teaching in a strong, differentiated curriculum including experiential learning, and an active curiosity about kids and their success. Openness to all forms of human diversity, flexibility and a sense of humor are key. Sayre Middle School has a 1-to-1 iPad program, and therefore our teachers are familiar with integrating technology into the curriculum. This is a wonderful independent school and a great place to work.
Students in our classes are engaged in active learning. They develop critical thinking skills, the ability to collaborate, and a love of learning. As a faculty, we enjoy each other and a collegial working environment.

Teaching classes in English (primarily seventh and eighth grades)
Guiding a group of advisees through their Middle School years and supporting the social-emotional needs of students
Working collaboratively with the team of Middle School teachers
A commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that aligns with Sayre’s mission and vision
Openness to or experience with interdisciplinary teaching
Writing narrative term comments about students
Duties around the school and extracurricular activities
Preparing students for the transition from Middle School to Upper School
Sponsoring a club or coaching a sports team
Applicants are asked to email a resume, cover letter, and the names of at least two professional references to the following people to Kristin Seymour, Head of Middle School, kseymour@sayreschool.org, and Trisha Lauritzen, Middle School Administrative Assistant, at tlauritzen@sayreschool.org.
