Position Overview
The Middle School Associate Teacher is a hybrid role that combines classroom support with progressive instructional responsibility for students in grades 6–8. Through observation, co-teaching, and mentorship from the Middle School Division Director, the Associate Teacher develops their instructional practice with the goal of taking on increasing responsibility over the course of the year. The pace and scope of this growth is individualized based on the Associate Teacher's development and readiness.
Primary Responsibilities:
Instructional Development
Observe experienced teachers to learn Armstrong's approaches
Co-teach alongside classroom teachers, gradually building toward independent responsibility
Lead lessons, sections, or small groups as readiness develops
Provide substitute coverage
Assist with documenting student progress
Classroom and Student Support
Assist in creating a safe and supportive learning environment where children can develop their full potential
Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, recess, and lunch
Create and produce classroom materials to support curriculum needs (coloring, laminating, copying, ordering, etc.)
Support Middle School writing, science, and history classes to help with classroom management during lessons
Check in with students at the beginning and end of the day to help them with organization
Actively participate in class activities, community meetings, and field trips
Participate in grade level Outdoor Education trips
Help develop and implement classroom positive behavior protocols and academic plans for individual students
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate regularly with classroom teachers about student progress and instructional strategies
Meet with the Division Director on a regular basis
Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals
Attend Grade Level Meetings (GLMs)
Model professional and ethical standards consistent with Armstrong’s values
Professional Development
Participate in training for Structured Literacy and Math programs
Engage in regular coaching cycles with instructional coaches
Attend professional development sessions and schoolwide events (Back to School Night, conferences, etc.)
Education, Certifications, and Work-Related Experience:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
Enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to teaching children with learning differences
Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
Preferred:
2-3 years of experience at the elementary school level working with children with language-based learning differences
Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching techniques

Competitive salary: $60,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience
