Join the Alcuin School team! We are seeking a full time Middle Year’s Program (MYP) Design Teacher to guide students in Grades 6–8 through the exciting world of design and innovation. In this role, you'll create dynamic learning experiences by weaving design principles into interdisciplinary projects and co-leading our thriving Robotics Club. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our expanding program while nurturing the next generation of designers, engineers, and creative problem solvers.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Middle School Design Teacher implements and delivers curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB/MYP) philosophy and helps direct students’ activities to reach his or her fullest potential, in the specified academic areas as well as the community in collaboration with Alcuin’s Mission Statement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching & Curriculum Integration
Implements all curricula and interdisciplinary projects that connects design principles with real world challenges within the designated subject area(s) following IB/MYP guidelines for MYP Years 2 and 3. Delivers in an engaging manner to inspire curiosity, creativity, and design thinking
Creates and implements all age-appropriate curricula including unplugged and plugged technology usage for Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary students including AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) and Digital Citizenship lessons for 1st through 8th grade students
Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and design methodologies that enhance student learning, recommend and collaborate with IB Coordinator and Director of Middle School for approved implementation
Develops partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and experts to provide real-world design challenges, including field experiences
Maintains digital record through Parent Communication Log of subject specific information and/or advisory information
Prepares and submits required lesson plans and ongoing unit plans and modifications within Rubicon Atlas
Maintains updated assignments in Google Classroom and records of each student’s progress in ManageBac (weekly)
Maintains accurate attendance records on MySchoolApp daily
Creates and maintains a personal record of lesson plans that can be shared as required
Maintains organization and safety in the designated classroom
Participates in a regular evaluation process including classroom observations, self-evaluation, and annual goal setting
Collaborates, plans, prepares, and provides timely feedback for conducting parent conferences
Works cooperatively with members of the faculty in the planning and executing of academic or community events across campus
Facilitates a student advisory group with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and team building activities as planned
Communicates regularly with parents about student progress, design challenges, and opportunities for engagement
Communicates with faculty, parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students while maintaining confidentiality
Supports the school and its policies positively
Models the behavior described in the Alcuin Standards of Faculty Excellence
Robotics Club Coaching
Co-mentors and coaches two student robotics teams with an emphasis on teamwork, engineering design, and competition readiness
Prepares students for competitions at the local, regional, and international levels
Supports students’ technical skills development (e.g., coding, 3D printing, mechanical design, etc.)
Maintains club materials, calendars, and communications with families and the broader community
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Chaperones students on day and week-long trips as assigned
Attends community functions and represents the school at community functions
Assists in ordering and keeping an inventory of needed equipment and supplies in collaboration with the Director of Middle School
Completes state-mandated bus driver training and drives an Alcuin bus on field trips as assigned
Completes Wilderness First Aid training as required
Other tasks as assigned by the Head of School or the Director of Middle School
Required:
Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.
Must pass Criminal Background Checks, reference checks and Drug Testing
Bachelor’s degree in design or STEM related field
2+ years’ hands-on experience with robotics, coding and digital fabrication tools
Working knowledge of design software and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to interact and communicate professionally with parents, students, and colleagues
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a design or STEM-related field
2+ years’ teaching experience in International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB/MYP)
Knowledge of Google Classroom, ManageBac and MySchoolApp
