The Red Oaks School, a PreK–8 independent school in Morristown, NJ, is seeking a Lower School Administrative Assistant for the upcoming school year. This position plays a vital role in the daily life of the school, supporting the smooth operation of our Early Childhood and Elementary Division while serving as a warm and welcoming presence for students, families, faculty, and visitors.
As the first point of contact for many families during drop-off and pick-up, and often the first voice heard when someone calls the school, the Lower School Administrative Assistant helps shape the daily experience of our community. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, flexible, patient, and kind, with strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of working in a school environment with young children.
This is a 10-month position with school holidays and summers off. Full benefits are included.
Responsibilities
School Administrative Support: Provide broad administrative support to ensure the smooth daily operation of the school, including maintaining records, supporting office systems, and managing supplies.
Support for the Early Childhood and Elementary Division: Support the daily work of the Early Childhood and Elementary Division by assisting with attendance, scheduling, calendaring, field trip logistics, lunch program organization, divisional supplies, and other needs that help teachers, students, and families move smoothly through the school day.
Reception and Family Communication: Serve as a warm and welcoming first point of contact for families, students, visitors, and callers, helping to create a calm, organized, and kind front-office environment that reflects the mission and values of the school.

Organization & Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to maintain systems, records, and schedules effectively.
Warmth & Professionalism: A kind, welcoming presence and the ability to represent the school with warmth, discretion, and professionalism.
Communication Skills: Clear, responsive, and thoughtful communication with families, students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Flexibility & Multitasking: Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, shift between tasks, and remain calm and effective in a busy school environment.
Comfort with Children: Genuine enjoyment of being around young children and an appreciation for the daily rhythms of an Early Childhood and Elementary school setting.
Collaboration: Ability to work closely with administrators, teachers, and staff in support of a thriving school community.
Technology & Office Skills: Proficiency with common office and school-based technology platforms preferred, including email, calendars, spreadsheets, databases, and document management systems.
