We are seeking a versatile STEM teacher to work in our Institute for Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (TIE), who also has the ability to teach courses in physics and engineering.
Teaching our Introduction to TIE course requires coding ability along with facility with common maker-space tools (i.e. 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, etc.).
Miss Porter’s uses a modular-block schedule where full credit courses are taught intensively within a trimester; a full-time teaching load is two courses per trimester.
All teachers are assigned co-curricular responsibilities based on interest and expertise; these include participation in the afternoon program and residential program.
Teachers are on a weekly duty team 5-6 weeks per year.
Teachers serve as advisors to a group of students.
Attendance at school events including evenings and weekends is required.
Prospective teaching candidates should have expertise in their field and an ability to teach in an interdisciplinary setting. Our faculty works together within and across departments to build curriculum and design assessments and experiences that are aligned both horizontally and vertically to provide students with a holistic and cohesive experience. Miss Porter’s is not a school where people teach and design curriculum in isolation from their colleagues. Genuine collaboration is a must! Candidates should be adept at managing a dynamic, active, student-centered classroom. They must also be skilled in curriculum design and familiar with project-based learning, authentic assessment, mastery learning, and standards-based grading.
Faculty members are expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share in residential life responsibilities. Accordingly, an interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties are essential. Perhaps most importantly, candidates must have a high degree of cross-cultural competency and be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of school life. Our teachers work to create equitable classrooms in which students have equal access to opportunities to learn and achieve their fullest potential. We are a mission-driven school, and our faculty are particularly committed to uplifting the voices of young women.
Working at a boarding school is a demanding job; thus, we seek candidates who are willing to work long hours when school is in session, knowing that their work is worthwhile because they are changing lives for the better. Miss Porter’s is committed to hiring, developing, and retaining a world-class faculty. We expect all of our teachers to be among the best in the nation.
