Roycemore School seeks a Early Childhood & Lower School Music & Drama Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Position Overview
The music teacher is responsible for designing and delivering a vibrant, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate music program for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Rooted in Roycemore’s commitment to cultivating lifelong learners, the music teacher fosters creativity, collaboration, and cultural appreciation through engaging instruction and community performances. By integrating musical expression with academic and social-emotional development, the teacher supports each child’s growth as a confident and joyful learner prepared to thrive in school and beyond.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Provides dynamic and engaging music instruction to students in Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
Provide drama instruction to First through Fourth Grade students on a rotating basis throughout the year.
Serves as music director, choir director, stage director, and choreographer for grade-level performances; piano accompanist experience preferred for concerts and rehearsals.
Designs and implements a child-centered, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate music curriculum that includes singing, movement, rhythm work, listening, creative expression, and music literacy.
Introduces students to a diverse range of musical genres, cultures, traditions, and global perspectives through inclusive and age-appropriate instruction.
Develops clear objectives for all lessons, units, and performances, and aligns instruction with best practices in early childhood and elementary music education.
Differentiates instruction to meet students’ varying needs, abilities, and learning styles.
Teaches in whole group, small group, and individual settings, using a variety of instructional strategies and technology tools to enhance learning.
Collaborates with classroom teachers and division heads to integrate music with interdisciplinary projects, assemblies, and community celebrations.
Oversees all aspects of student performances, including preparation, staging, costuming, and communication with families and colleagues.
Assesses and documents student progress through observation, informal/formal assessments, and regular narrative reporting.
Maintains ongoing communication with families regarding student growth, class events, and performance details through newsletters, emails, and direct contact.
Actively participates in faculty collaboration and the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of the music curriculum.
Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and remains current with trends and research in music education.
Participates in the full life of the school, including attending community events, leading or supporting after-school programs, assisting with admissions events (e.g., Open Houses), and fostering a strong sense of school spirit.
Models Roycemore’s values and Portrait of a Graduate in all interactions with students, colleagues, and families.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
A minimum of three years of experience teaching music to early childhood and elementary students, preferably in an independent school environment
Ability to develop and design curriculum and lesson plans
Excellence in classroom management techniques
Outstanding ability to collaborate with colleagues
Enthusiasm for professional development
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent verbal, written and observational skills
Demonstrates patience, good listening skills, and the ability to multitask
Strong organizational and time management skills
Flexibility in addressing the children’s as well as the school’s needs
Working knowledge of Macintosh operating systems
Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)
Strong passion for teaching & commitment to student learning & development
Committed to curriculum design and growth
Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
Comfortable using Learning Management System, and computer systems
Able to use basic office equipment
