Ranney School seeks two Upper School History Teachers for the 2026–2027 school year. The Upper School History curriculum includes required courses in Grade 9 (Modern World History) and Grade 10 (United States History, including the option of AP U.S. History), as well as a required civics course in Grade 11 (which may include AP U.S. Government & Politics).
In addition to the core curriculum, recent elective offerings have included Global Citizenship, Psychology & Sociology, the Global History of Sport, and the History of American Capitalism. Advanced Placement electives include AP World History: Modern, European History, Art History, and Economics.
The ideal candidates:
will have an advanced degree in History, History education, or a related field and experience teaching high school
will be enthusiastic about teaching both historical content and historical thinking skills toward meaningful, relevant, and high academic standards
will be adept at teaching both U.S. History and World History survey courses as well as the potential to teach a seminar-style elective course.
will have a growth mindset both personally and professionally
will foster collegial interactions with one’s peers and kind, positive, productive interactions with students and parents
may have the expertise and flexibility to teach AP Economics (Macro and Micro) and/or AP Art History
Primary? ?Job? ?Responsibilities:
Teach five sections of Upper School History
Mentor students in advisory and co-curricular activities, participate in division and department meetings, and serve in various supervisory roles.
Facilitate an offering in the Upper School’s “Maymester” program, an experiential education program that takes place over the last two weeks of the school year.
Developing strong relationships with students and colleagues is critical for one’s success at Ranney and for the school’s successful accomplishment of its mission to “know and value every child.”
