The Village School of North Bennington has an immediate opening for a full-time School Counselor/Behavior Interventionist for the 2025-2026 school year. The School Counselor/Behavior Interventionist provides counseling support for students in accordance with their EST, IEP, or 504 Plans and may provide short-term counseling support to other students, as needed. Additionally, the School Counselor/Behavior Interventionist also provides academic and behavioral support for emotionally and behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction where needed or as directed by the Head of School and/or Assistant Head of School. This role supports the delivery of academic services for students with behavioral and academic challenges by providing intensive therapeutic support in the least restrictive environment so students can be successful in school.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES:
Work 1:1 or in small groups with students exhibiting challenging behaviors to provide targeted interventions, providing supervision of students in crisis, working to de-escalate and regulate with the goal of reintegration back into the classroom.
Works directly with teachers, support staff, specialists, and administrators when assessing students’ social/behavioral needs and in designing and implementing behavior management plans to meet the needs of students
When classroom reintegration is not possible, provide 1:1 or small group academic instruction in a separate setting with materials from the classroom teacher until reintegration is possible.
Collect behavior data and monitor student progress and work with BCBA to adjust intervention strategies.
Conduct classroom observations to identify possible behavior triggers for individual students in order to assist teachers with the development and implementation of appropriate classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.
Collaborate with members of the Student Services Team to provide behavior support for students on IEP and 504 plans; and participate in EST, IEP, and 504 meetings upon request.
Communicate with families to discuss behavior concerns, intervention strategies, and progress
Must carry a radio at all times in order to assist in managing crisis situations involving students on an on-call basis
Support teachers and staff with classroom reset and student removal as necessary.
Periodically provide instruction on topics around behavior management techniques to faculty and staff during in-service professional development.
Deliver all “Care For Kids” and “We Care Elementary” lessons, as required by the Vermont AOE.
Provide counseling services for students on IEP, 504, or EST plans; may provide short-term counseling support to other students, as needed
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School and/or Assistant Head of School

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree, required
License in school counseling and/or clinical mental health counseling, required
Current CPI certification, required
Previous experience working with elementary-aged children with social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges in an educational or therapeutic setting, required
Experience working with students on IEPs or 504s, strongly preferred
