Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a one-year appointment Upper School Librarian position. The Upper School Librarian will work in close collaboration with the US Library department to support students in a bustling, inclusive, and vibrant library space serving 9th-12th graders. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with students and the library department to support the library’s mission. 

This position is for a full-time (1.0 FTE), one-year appointment during the 2025-2026 school year. First consideration will be given to applications received by Jun 30, 2025 and the posting will then remain open until filled.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team to advocate for and implement an effective and comprehensive library program drawn from current best practices
• Empower young adults to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
• Maintain an inviting and welcoming space that generates an understanding of and appreciation for the multifaceted role of libraries to the community.
• In collaboration with faculty, teach students to successfully navigate the research process through the use of formal and informal instructional methods, including one-on-one research conferences with individual students
• Provide reference and instructional support for scheduled and on-the-spot student and faculty needs
• Develop information literacy resources to provide students with synchronous and asynchronous instructional support to effectively navigate the information landscape and library resources
• Help to curate, develop, manage, and promote a collection that represents diverse cultures, experiences, and viewpoints
• Model, foster, and promote lifelong learning and self-directed reading
• Provide effective, enthusiastic, and informed reader’s advisory and promotion that reflects our diverse student body, to encourage self-directed reading in the community
• Manage and supervise a large, open-plan, and busy library space (Mondays - Fridays, 7:45am - 4:00pm) to support a whole spectrum of young adult work styles and social-emotional needs
• Attend department and faculty meetings, including regular faculty meetings scheduled until 5pm and occasional additional meetings, events, and trainings beyond the school day
• Actively participating in the life of the school community, including a distributed leadership role, such as advising a student club or activity within the school day, joining a standing committee, or chaperoning. 
• Act as an advisor for eight to ten Upper School students
• Other duties as required

Requirements and Qualifications

• Master of Library and Information Science degree (completed by August 2025) from an ALA-accredited institution
• Understanding of and enthusiasm for the varied roles that libraries play in learning, social emotional development, and the school community
• Familiarity with reference and information literacy fundamentals and instructional best practices, particularly those appropriate for high school learners.
• Knowledge of materials and resources to support high school curriculum and young adult reading
• Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
• Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience, that is preferred but not required, includes

• Developing and delivering library programs and instruction for young adults,
• Collaborating with faculty to design and implement information literacy lessons,
• Providing reference and instructional services
• Creating and curating online resource pages (LibGuides experience is a plus), and
• Managing a collection via ILS (Follett Destiny experience is a plus).

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $72,388 - $128,150 based upon experience and education.
