Athens Academy faculty and staff members are dedicated professionals who are not only experts in their respective fields of study but are also sensitive to the gifts and challenges of individual students.
The Middle School:
Recognizing that Middle School students are in a rapid mental, emotional, and physical growth stage of life, Athens Academy emphasizes responsibility, creativity, independent thinking, personal values, and service to others. Middle School students (grades 5-8) begin to master broader and more rigorous aspects of learning that include written expression, vocabulary, problem-solving, research, scientific investigation, and teamwork. An emphasis on critical and creative thinking runs throughout the curriculum. Opportunities for public speaking, performing, publication, and athletic competitions complement the challenging academic program. The Middle School is composed of approximately 300 students supported by 38 teachers and instructional support staff.
The Position:
The position of Middle School Dean, beginning in the summer of 2026, will require an educator who demonstrates a high degree of organization, collaboration, creativity, and flexibility. The Middle School Dean supports the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students by fostering a positive, inclusive, and developmentally responsive school culture. This role collaborates closely with faculty, families, and administrators to address student needs, guide behavior expectations, and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment. The Dean also leads initiatives that strengthen community values, coordinates scheduling and service projects, and contributes to the overall growth and success of the middle school division. Qualified candidates will possess strong communication skills, a growth mindset, and a willingness to be an active participant in the larger Athens Academy community. Coaching and/or teaching are also required.
