POSITION OBJECTIVE: Provide visionary instructional and operational leadership for the
Middle School division, ensuring exceptional academic outcomes, faculty
excellence, and alignment with the School's mission and strategic goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in education or related field; Master’s degree preferred
Experience working with various age/grade levels
Five years of full-time, K-12 teaching experience strongly preferred
Expertise in middle grades curriculum and instruction, including data-informed leadership

Essential Functions:
General Responsibilities
Model the mission and values of Hancock Day School.
Cultivate a mission-aligned, comprehensive, and developmentally responsive learning environment.
Serve on the Senior Leadership Team; develop, implement, and manage priorities aligned with institutional goals.
Attend and present at weekend and evening events as required.
Curriculum and Instruction
Manage and monitor the division’s academic program.
Lead and manage academic testing for the division.
Serve as the instructional leader of the division. Set, establish, and advance the division’s instructional goals and priorities.
Supervise and evaluate divisional faculty and staff with a dual focus on support and accountability.
Manage the divisional professional development budget and ensure all faculty participate in continuous professional development.
Actively promote the professional growth of divisional faculty, conduct regular classroom observations, and provide formal faculty evaluations annually.
Create a divisional master schedule for faculty and students, lead the SIS scheduling process, and review and approve individual student schedules.
Establish, manage, communicate, and oversee the division’s disciplinary policy; ensure a safe and orderly environment in which teachers can teach, and students can learn.
Oversee the ongoing evolution and annual progress goals of “signature programs” serving the division.
Approve or edit proposed field trips and special activities.
Oversee co-curricular and advisory programming to ensure promotion and alignment with Hancock Day School’s mission and values.
Ensure that appropriate support services are in place for students and families as needed.
In conjunction with the Student Support Team, support at-risk students and develop action plans for student improvement.
Administrative
Lead, manage, and monitor the division's daily operations, including staffing, student attendance, and school safety.
Strive to retain qualified faculty and lead divisional hiring process.
Gain fluency with SIS/LMS software and serve as an SIS/LMS resource for faculty and staff.
Work closely with fellow division head to ensure interdivisional alignment.
Collaborate with fellow division head, the assistant head of school, and head of school to draft and plan emergency drills.
Lead divisional parent and guardian engagement through written materials, parent meetings, and other forums on issues related to the division’s educational programs.
Play an active role in the admissions process for new students.
Monitor the division’s budget and allocate available resources to support Hancock Day School’s mission.
Conduct regular team meetings and assist with the planning of full faculty meetings.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the head of school.
Working Environment:
Work hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; Weekly after-school meetings.
Collaborative and fast-paced working environment requiring regular interaction with students, colleagues, and parents.
Requires significant emotional intelligence and resilience to navigate complex student, parent, and faculty matters.
Requires standing, movement, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Minimal temperature variations.
