SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, is a completely residential, co-educational secondary school affiliated with the Episcopal Church and welcoming to people of all faiths. DESCRIPTION Serving as the primary clinical representative to the school community, the Medical Director oversees, coordinates, and ensures high-quality health care services in all areas of service delivery including medical, mental health, psychiatric, orthopedic and nutritional. The Medical Director is responsible for the clinical and administrative operations of the Clark House Health Center. In addition to coordinating contracted services, the Medical Director supervises the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Practitioner, and the Dietitian.
As a member of the faculty, the Medical Director is responsible for activities typical to the boarding school environment, including attendance at faculty meetings, seated meals, chapel, and participation in committee work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical:
Oversee health services for all students during the school year and the Advanced Studies Program, providing 24/7 on call coverage and coordinating backup coverage as needed
Provide direct patient care and serve as a resource to the health center staff who are working with our students
Oversee the coordination of care for students who are sent to the emergency room, admitted to the hospital, or referred to external care providers and/or specialists
Provide direct supervision to the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Practitioner, and the Dietitian
Collaborate with the Director of Counseling Services to ensure continuity of care
Act as a consultant and clinical resource to the Athletic Trainers
Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to identify and coordinate appropriate medical coverage for athletic contests of high impact sports (e.g. football)
Supervise all clinical services of the health center staff to ensure high quality services
Develop and implement protocols and procedures reflecting best practice in anticipation of medical events affecting the health and wellness of the school community
Participate in student leave and return from leave decisions by providing professional opinion about level of care necessary and student’s ability to meet the minimal skill expectations
Maintain professional competency through participation in relevant medical education programs and consultative work with other physicians
Maintain current licensure and board certifications
Serve as a member of the Behavioral Response Team, ensuring preparedness for unexpected events with wide-spread community impact
Serve as a member of the Student Support Team, the Administrative Team, the Deans and Clark House Team, and the Accommodations Committee
Administrative:
Oversee and ensure appropriate documentation in students’ medical records
Assess and modify clinical protocols, policies, and procedures in collaboration with health center staff, the Vice Rector for School Life, and other on campus partners
Ensure a high quality health center staff through recruitment, performance evaluations, professional development, and retention
Lead quality assurance efforts through regular review of health center utilization, trends, and case studies
Collaborate with the administration and faculty to provide preventative health programming and initiatives
Provide information to faculty and staff regarding specific student’s health needs and provide instruction regarding how to respond to a related health event
Review all new students' health information to ensure a complete understanding of the health needs and risks for individual students, meeting with students and their families as needed
Communicate with families of students and obtain essential information from home providers as needed
Facilitate 5th and 6th form seminars
Ensure that the health center meets all regulatory and licensing requirements in the State of New Hampshire
Develop and oversee the annual operating budget
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Applicants must possess an MD or DO from an accredited college or university and be eligible to be licensed in the state of NH and maintain a valid DEA license.
Experience: Preferred 5 years of experience as a doctor serving the adolescent and young adult population. Experience in leadership roles preferred.
