The Elisabeth Morrow School, a leader in education from early childhood through middle school, seeks a School Safety Coordinator. The School Safety Coordinator (SSC) is responsible for the overall safety and security of the school community and campus. This will be a twelve-month position, based on the school’s and camp’s calendar. The SSC shall perform a variety of safety-related activities, including the supervision and monitoring of campus and emergency management planning and implementation, schoolwide.
This position reports to the Director of Facilities and works with the Operations Team. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and well-supervised campus environment. This role oversees campus access, monitors student and visitor behavior, ensures compliance with school policies, responds to incidents and emergencies, and supports facility operations. The Coordinator serves as the primary on-site authority during assigned shifts and will act as a liaison among staff, students, families, and external partners.to oversee the safety and security of the school.
Essential Responsibilities
Supervise, monitor, and patrol campus, buildings, and parking areas, including during occasional nighttime or weekend school events.
Establish and promote a safe environment and accident prevention by performing safety audits, employee training, and inspections, and by maintaining open channels of communication.
Oversee emergency response plans (evacuation, shelter-in-place, lockdown, medical emergencies, etc.) and coordinate with first responders.
Respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
Coordinate and maintain the school’s security systems.
Plan and direct staff training programs related to all areas of school safety based on needs assessment.
Control campus access and register visitors in the main office.
Provide traffic and parking control to maintain efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots.
Follow appropriate action to assist an injured or physically ill student or staff member.
Participate in professional development opportunities, including NJDOE’s “School Safety Specialist Academy” and other relevant job-related training.
Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni, and vendors.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the local community and first responders.
Model professionalism and nondiscriminatory practices in an educational environment.
Hold in strict confidence all matters pertaining to the school.
Perform additional or different duties to address security needs and changing practices as determined by the Head of School.
Essential Qualifications
Maintain qualification to carry a firearm under applicable State and Federal regulations.
Must have and maintain valid New Jersey SORA level 2 card
Previous law enforcement experience required. School-based experience is preferred.
Proficiency in utilizing technology in the implementation of a comprehensive safety program, including commercial security, camera, and alarm systems.
First Aid and CPR certification
Knowledge of industry trends and best practices
Knowledge of Emergency Management systems
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
Effective communication skills
Creative and resourceful, with a strong work ethic
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand, walk, or drive on campus in various weather conditions; to climb stairs; to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.
Compensation
This is a full-time position with a benefits and compensation package that is competitive for the region. The salary range is $70,000 to $95,000 per year.
