Lincoln School, founded in 1884, is an independent K-12 Quaker girls’ school in Providence, Rhode Island. We are currently seeking applicants for a part-time Middle and Upper School Visual Arts Teacher beginning in August 2025. Lincoln School values working with a diverse faculty and staff and seeks applications from individuals who share our commitment to educating girls to fearlessly embrace the opportunities and responsibilities of full citizenship in a complex world.
The Art Teacher will collaborate with the Art Department to design and implement an innovative curriculum that fosters creativity and exploration, as well as critical and elastic thinking. The curriculum will emphasize:
Hands-on, inquiry-based learning approaches
Encouraging creative risk-taking and generative thinking
Collaborative problem-solving and teamwork
Exploration of diverse art-making materials and processes, both in 2D and 3D
Exposure to a wide range of contemporary and historical artists
An anti-racist, inclusive, and culturally responsive perspective in art education
Qualifications:
We seek a passionate and dynamic educator who inspires students and fosters a collaborative and creative environment with colleagues. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art Education or a related field is required. A Master’s degree and teaching experience in an art-focused environment is preferred.
Experience: Knowledge of Advanced Ceramics, with the ability to guide students in using diverse media across various art forms for Grades 6 -12. A solid understanding of student developmental stages and an appreciation for the varied needs of middle and high school learners
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of contemporary art education research, art history, and best practices in teaching. Familiarity with current trends and innovations in the art world and art education
Collaboration: A flexible, team-oriented approach to working with colleagues across disciplines and grade levels
Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with students, parents, and colleagues effectively
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students and colleagues
Professionalism: A high standard of professionalism in all aspects of the job, from interactions with students to organizational responsibilities
