About NCCS
New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9 living in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Located in New Canaan, CT, and serving 570 students, our mission is to guide students to reach their intellectual, creative, moral, and physical potential. New Canaan Country School's Plus Program offers before and after school optional programming for all students in Early Childhood through Grade 9. The program provides opportunities for enrichment and fun in a nurturing environment including Beginners Connections, Early Birds, Extended Day, Enrichment Classes, Homework Central and Music Academy. We are now seeking candidates to serve in a part-time capacity as Plus Program Assistant. Typical hours include M, T, Th, F 2:30-6:00 pm., W 12:00-6:00 p.m., and weekends as needed. Hours are subject to change and/or increase based on school calendar and additional needs.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for the daily arrival of 50+ students for after school programs:
- snack and materials
- check-in students/maintain daily attendance records
- escort students to classes or extended day
- escort students to proper dismissal/maintain daily dismissal records
- Monitor two daily Homework Clubs for students in Grades 3-9, helping them organize and to develop good study habits; this may include answering basic questions and directions
- Provide care and supervision for students in grades PreK-9 after school, on conference days, and when the School offers supplemental care
- Develop and oversee activities that are developmentally and seasonally appropriate and that align with the School's mission and culture; these may include but are not limited to arts and crafts, cooking, board games, outside play, cooperative games
- Build productive partnerships with parents so that they feel confident in the care of their children
- Potential to assist on weekends/evenings monitoring facilities rentals and visitors
- Ensure student safety by complying with all school policies and procedures
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and complete required in-house trainings
- Minimum of two years college education
- Experience working with students as a tutor, teacher, and/or counselor
- Demonstrated experience working with parents, teachers, and students
- Experience with emergency/crisis management and conflict resolution
- Interest in educational work
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate (training available through school)
