BCD seeks a School Nurse to start at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year. The nurse will support the health and wellness of all students in grades PS - 8, as well as all school employees. The nurse will report to the Head of School. The ideal candidate must be a thoughtful and compassionate healthcare provider who is able to handle a busy Health Room. This role requires a nurse who is collaborative, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask. While we envision the majority of the nursing hours on campus, the flexibility to answer calls and respond to COVID questions in the evening (not to exceed 40 hours weekly) is critical. Additionally, the nurse must be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and school personnel. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, the nurse delivers health services for students in a timely manner; offers assessment and medical referral; educates the community on important health issues; identifies health problems; collaborates with parents, primary care physicians,, and teachers to develop student healthcare plans; and ensures the safety and health of the community. BCD is particularly interested in candidates with experience in school health, pediatrics, and community health. An ideal candidate is technologically savvy in order to manage the online systems that communicate and distribute medical information.
Responsibilities Include:
- General
- Meet with and act as liaison with Colorado Children’s School Nurse Consultant on a regular basis and contact parents for updates on paperwork or medications as necessary.
- Monitor mediations to ensure all necessary paperwork (Health Care Plans, medication forms, immunization forms) are completed and appropriately distributed.
- Participate in medication training and all mandatory trainings for nurses who work with licensed preschool programs in the State of Colorado.
- Must maintain current CPR certification.
- Assist the Head of School and Administrative team with the development and maintenance of school health policies and work collaboratively with nurse/med professionals at other ACIS and local schools.
- Provide employees support and training for CPR, medication delegation, severe allergy response, etc.
- Liaison between the State and the Preschool Division Head to ensure health standards for licensing.
- Support ALT crisis team in the event of medical emergencies.
- Provide general first aid, emergency care, and administration of medication for students, employees, and guests, including collaboration with families.
- Act as a medication delegator in partnership with Children’s Hospital Health Nurse Consultant.
- Maintain school medical forms and databases (SNAP) for all students PS - 8th grade, updating throughout the school year.
- Coordinate the acquisition of supplies and materials necessary to efficiently run the Health Office, and maintain proper inventory of health supplies, and classroom emergency backpacks.
- Prepare First Aid supplies, medical forms, and medications for school field trips.
- Act as the primary liaison with Boulder County Public Health and CDPHE
- Liaison with families and employees regarding COVID testing, isolation, quarantine, and return to learn.
- Work with the Administrative Assistant, to manage databases of student and staff health information related to COVID-19.
- Coordinate and support biweekly in-school COVID testing effort.
- Work with the ALT and the Human Resources department to determine wellness goals for the employees each year. Could include:
- Survey of employees
- Managing wellness budget and hiring consultations/contract for mindfulness, massage, coffee days, etc…
- Review school lunch options from a nutritional perspective
- Coordinate Child Sexual Assault training for students with local and regional providers
- Consult or teach some/all of health curriculum for 5th - 8th
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive health program for students, parents, and employees of BCD
Qualifications
Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in nursing and CPR certification from the American Heart Association. The school nurse must be a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) with a current CO license. Candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, absent eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.

The school nurse must be available on campus from 7:30-4:00PM each day when school is in session and available as needed in the evenings, on the weekends, and during school breaks/closures. There may be some responsibilities over the summer including review of annual student health records, procurement of health room supplies, and general school year preparation. Salary is competitive and based on experience. The ideal candidate for this position will:
- Be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN) preferred
- Have pediatrics, community and /or school health experience: 1 year (Preferred)
- Have experience nursing in a school setting
- Possess a welcoming, friendly and outgoing manner both in person and on the phone
- Maintain a highly professional work environment
