Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for a full-time position of Innovation Coordinator/ Associate CS Teacher, beginning August 2022. This is a 10-month entry-level position which offers an excellent array of benefits. The Academy, founded in 1759, is a non-sectarian, coeducational, college preparatory school of more than 1,200 students in Grades PK-12, located in the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia on a campus of 126 acres. The position does not offer tuition remission.

Position Purpose:
This position offers the opportunity to gain experience and work alongside faculty to expand skill sets in the areas of computer science, design thinking, project-based learning, and maker spaces. This person will collaborate with, and support teachers interested in using the BCI as a space to explore innovative ideas and will teach computer science. The computer science program prepares students by developing an understanding of the capabilities of the computational tools around us, the algorithmic and abstraction skills to wield those tools to solve a variety of problems, and the ethical behavior to do so responsibly. This position will report to the Director of Information and Instructional Technology and the Computer Science Dept Chair. The ideal candidate will possess a growth mindset, be a creative and flexible thinker and have the capacity to collaborate with learners at a variety of age and skill levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate events/activities in the Beard Center for Innovation (BCI) as a collaborative and creative learning space
- Coordinate with faculty on times and planning for lessons in the BCI
- Maintenance, upkeep, and inventory of the BCI and Makerspace
- Assist in the creation of professional development opportunities in the areas of Computer Science, Design Thinking, Project-Based Learning, and Maker spaces
- Teach two sections of computer science, including potential project advising for Advanced Topics in Computer Science
- Partner with lower school homeroom teachers in basic computer science instruction and provide hands on instructional assistance in computer science
Skill Qualifications:
- Ability to support faculty and students in their understanding of effective use of the BCI and Makerspace
- Demonstrated desire to work with students at all stages in their understanding of computer science
- Major or minor in CS or related field or demonstrated programming experience
- Familiarity with a range of learner-friendly programming tools and environments (Scratch, Code.org, Glitch), as well as an ability to help students troubleshoot/debug programs in a variety of languages (ex: Scratch, JavaScript, Python, Swift, and Java).
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
