Kingswood Oxford is seeking a passionate, energetic, and collaborative individual who models a growth mindset and is interested in learning about the world of education and independent schools. In addition to having a strong desire to learn, successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in adolescent development, curriculum, and pedagogy. This is a great opportunity for candidates who are self-starters, have great observation skills, love working with children, and have a desire to be in a classroom. Candidates should also understand the importance of involvement in the community and student engagement and empowerment and value ongoing professional development and authentic collaboration with other faculty and staff to advance the school’s mission and strategic vision. This is a full-time position.
The KO Middle school has had great success with developing interns into highly attractive candidates for full-time teaching positions. This program immerses interns in all aspects of independent school life: community and culture, teaching, advising, and coaching. This is a one-year program that includes campus housing or a housing stipend but does not guarantee employment at the end of the school year, although that is a possibility. By the end of the school year, interns are ready and expected to teach two classes and coach independently.
Interns will:
- Be paired with a mentor teacher in which they will learn how to lesson plan, apply and reflect on their teaching.
- Be paired with a mentor advisor and advisee group in which they will stay over the course of the school year. They will participate in parent conferences and assist in writing advisory reports.
- Be paired with a different mentor coach for each of the sports seasons. Interns will take part in all practices and competitions.
- Interns will also be supported by a Department Chair, the New Teacher coordinator, The Director of Teaching and Learning, along with the Division Head.
- Participate in all “new teacher” meetings and professional development.
- Be a full-fledged member of the Middle School faculty and take part in all activities pertaining to the division.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or advanced degree in French or an education degree with a minor in French or an education degree and a native speaker.
- Interest in working with beginning language students in French.
- Interest in working in school settings and/or interest in learning about and working in an independent middle and high school setting.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to be flexible, maintain a sense of humor, and be a team player
