Context and Philosophy:
Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a 4th grade part-time math teacher and Lower School (LS) Math Specialist. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience using technology in their teaching, collaborating with colleagues, and who will incorporate multi-sensory teaching techniques and understands the developmental needs of our students. We seek candidates who bring innovation to the classroom, can engage students through varied teaching methodologies, and have regular and effective communication with parents. Candidates may be asked to share materials that demonstrate these qualities during the interview. Sadlier Math is the curriculum being used in our 4th grade. This faculty member will teach math for approximately 5 hours per week. In addition, this person will work 13 hours per week with our Learning Support Team to meet the math needs of students and teachers across the Lower School grades. This work will include analyzing data, meeting with small groups, helping teachers with plans to differentiate math instruction, and working in collaboration with the learning support team and LS administrators. Candidates should be available to work on Mondays from 8:30-3:15 p.m. and Tuesday – Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. In addition to classroom duties, expectations include attendance at a team meeting. This position is for the 2022-23 school year.
Responsibilities:
- Teach the core subject area(s) that honors the Quaker values and the Teaching and Learning Paradigm of Friends School
- Attend All-School Professional Days, team/department meetings, and Lower School faculty meetings
- Help move the initiatives of the School forward by serving on committees and lending his/her expertise and voice
- Write lesson plans in their absence
- Collaborate with teachers in their team/department, within the division, and cross-divisionally
- Ensuring the safety of their students at all times they are in their care
- Maintain a visually-attractive classroom and learning environment for the students
- Support in the development of students’ social skills
- Provide parents and administrators with timely, written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of their educational experience
- To maintain a current understanding of best practices in the subject areas they teach and have an understanding of the developmental needs of the age group of students in their care
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; experience preferred
