The Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC) Lower School is a vibrant and caring school community. We seek an innovative and experienced elementary science teacher for our Grades 4 and 5 students. Working in collaboration with the Lower School Science Specialist and Faculty, we are looking to hire a part-time science teacher who can plan and implement creative and resourceful hands-on learning experiences for our young scientists. The ideal candidate will create and provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Students are used to working in a creative and vibrant environment and are fully engaged by teachers who know their students extremely well.
Understanding that Global Education is an important focus of our Lower School, the ideal candidate will look for ways to enhance the connection between students’ classroom experiences, and their science and technology skills. The candidate will be technologically proficient and able to use a variety of applications and tools to enhance students’ learning.
Position Duties (include, but are not limited to)
- Providing appropriate hands-on science instruction for students in Grades 4 and 5 both inside the classroom and in outdoor settings

Supporting the academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of individual students while treating them with dignity and respect at all times

Collaborative instruction integrated with global and social studies curriculum, in conjunction with Lower School classroom teachers and other specialist teachers

Thoughtful implementation, both in person and remotely, of project approach work and best practices for young children

Exploration of innovative teaching theories and practices through ongoing professional development opportunities
In addition, we seek candidates who can bring a passion for science exploration to our students and enjoy being in the presence of young children. The ideal candidate should be highly skilled in using multiple resources in support of curricular and pastoral areas. Education and Experience
A minimum of three years of experience is desired. BA/BS from an accredited college or university in Science/Elementary Education is required, Master’s Degree is preferred.
