West Nottingham Academy, a premier independent boarding school located in Colora, MD, has an opening for a Physics and Engineering Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a vibrant and fun school atmosphere. This position reports directly to the Academic Dean.
The teaching faculty are the strength of community of West Nottingham Academy, striving to provide the support, care, and attention necessary to meet the students where they are to develop understanding and mastery across the curriculum. The teaching faculty play an important role in the life of the school and are in almost constant collaboration with other staff members, administrators, parents, students, and the Head of School. All faculty work closely with the Academic Dean and their Department Chairs to maintain congruency between the school’s mission and each department’s curriculum.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Teach six upper-level courses in Biology (including AP Biology) as well as other STEM electives as needed
- Employ creative curriculum strategies to enhance student interest in STEM.
- Employ a variety of classroom techniques to deliver information including student-centered project-based learning.
- Serve as an advisor up to 8 students.
- Attend departmental and faculty meetings, as well as all school events.
- Coach/Assist 2 seasons of after school sports and/or activities
- Duty Team Responsibilities – one (1) weekend each month, and one (1) night during each week.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education/Biology or related field required.
- At least three years of teaching experience in STEM, preferred.
- Ability to teach other science disciplines beyond Biology highly preferred.
- Boarding School experience preferred.
- Former high school/college athlete preferred.
- Understanding of and desire to work with students.
- Proven ability to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues to build community and support student learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently.
- Interest in and aptitude for building new programs/classes/learning experiences.
- A high degree of cultural competency.
